Breaking Free: Embracing the Unconventional
Reflecting on Human Wants and the Journey to Liberation.
Two years ago, my family and I took a leap into the unknown. We sold our family home, said goodbye to warm running water, and embarked on a journey that challenged societal norms. What started as a house sale turned into a pursuit of something more profound—a life of freedom and authenticity.
The Bold Decision
Accompanied by my partner, two children, and three dogs, we initially stayed with my parents. The urge to move forward led us to contemplate a house purchase that didn’t quite align with our values. That’s when I made a bold decision—to buy a dilapidated caravan. Anton, my partner, was initially apprehensive, but now he loves our unconventional lifestyle and the freedom it provides during our times of need.
Embracing the Sacrifice
Despite the expense and decay, the caravan symbolised freedom. We summoned the courage to call off the house purchase, embracing the uncertainty with enthusiasm. Our new home traded warm running water for 5L bottles filled from an outdoor tap, a flushing toilet for a portable one, and a cozy house for a caravan with zero central heating. The sacrifice was real, but so was the sense of liberation.
Transforming Pain into Creativity
The caravan became more than a living space; it became my canvas for emotional healing through creation. Every stroke of paint, every renovation, was a step towards reclaiming control over our lives. Later, we ventured into buying a rundown house at auction, now nearing completion of its renovation.
A Realisation of Life’s Preciousness
In a world where many endure situations that don’t serve them, persistently aiming for societal standards, I’ve come to realise the importance and preciousness of life. Life is too short to be confined by societal expectations.
The Journey of Self-Discovery
Taking risks and breaking free from societal norms became a journey of self-discovery. This exploration has been a key component in my healing and learning, subtly guiding me towards a more authentic and fulfilling life.
Embracing Freedom
We are not owned; we do not have to conform. Embracing our humanity, we find true liberation and celebrate the essence of “we.”
