Reclaiming Sophie: A Journey Back to My Roots

In early 2023, I embarked on a deeply transformative journey. It began with a psilocybin experience that took me to the depths of my soul, revealing layers of myself that I had never fully understood.
During this journey, I decided to change my name to Lucie, a choice that symbolised a profound evolution in my personal and spiritual life.
The trip was intense, filled with visions and encounters with spirits from my past, including my beloved grandmother and an elderly friend who had passed away when I was young.
In this altered state, I confronted the darkness within me, battling through it with the light that sought to cleanse and renew my spirit.
The name Lucie emerged as a beacon, a way to anchor this new understanding of myself. It resonated deeply, as if it was meant to be—a name that connected with my past while guiding me into my future.
Months later, I discovered a startling connection to a Lucy in my family who had passed away at a young age (a long time ago).
This revelation, combined with the knowledge that I was supposed to be a twin but wasn’t, added layers of meaning to my experience. It felt as though my journey had intertwined with ancestral energies, linking my path with those who came before me.
But as time passed and I continued to reflect, I felt a pull back to my birth name, Sophie.
This wasn’t a rejection of my transformation, but rather a recognition of the depth of my journey. Reclaiming Sophie has become a symbol of reconnection—with my roots, my family, and the essence of who I am. It’s a way to honour the wisdom I’ve gained and the growth I’ve experienced, while still holding space for the transformative power of my time as Lucie.
This brings me to a question I’ve been contemplating:
Do you believe your birth name holds a special significance or connection to your life path?
Our names are given to us at birth, often carrying with them the hopes, dreams, and histories of our families. Yet, as we grow and change, we may feel drawn to other names that resonate with who we are becoming. My experience has led me to wonder if our birth names might carry more weight than we realise—if they are, in some way, linked to our destiny or purpose in life.
Have you ever felt a deep connection to your birth name, or perhaps a pull towards a different name that felt more aligned with your true self? I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences. How do you think your name has shaped your identity and your path in life?
