Just one day after his arrest, Zack Griffiths — Founder of HMP Prisons Justice Group — has been officially recalled to prison following a court hearing held today at Cardiff Magistrates.

The decision, while expected by some, has sent shockwaves through supporters who believe Zack is being targeted for his role in publicly exposing conditions, deaths, and alleged misconduct inside HMP Parc, a prison run by G4S.

The recall means Zack will now serve the remainder of a previous sentence, regardless of the outcome of his current legal case. The new charges — remain under investigation and are yet to be tried.

A Pattern of Escalation

Zack’s arrest on 10 April came as a surprise to many, but to those watching the trajectory of this campaign, it felt like a turning point. His work has consistently challenged the private prison model, raised awareness of deaths in custody, and shone a light on what campaigners say is a failing system shielded by bureaucracy and silence.

His recall marks not just a personal loss of freedom, but what many see as an institutional backlash. His supporters believe the timing is deliberate — a message sent to discourage further resistance.

Allegations of Assault While in Custody

Shortly after his arrest, Zack spoke with a family member and alleged he had been physically mistreated while in police custody. Legal representation was informed, and the matter has been noted.

While further details remain private, the group has stated that any confirmed misconduct will be addressed through the appropriate legal and public channels. They have reaffirmed their zero tolerance for violence — especially from those entrusted to uphold the law.

The Campaign Stands Firm

Despite the recall, the campaign is not slowing down. Organisers from HMP Prisons Justice Group and affiliated platforms say Zack’s removal will not silence the growing movement demanding reform.

“This was never just about one man — Zack knew that better than anyone. The work continues, because the truth is bigger than any one arrest,” said a fellow organiser.

Zack’s voice has been a key part of amplifying those who lost loved ones to a system they feel never listened. His absence will be felt — but his message has already taken root.

A spokesperson for HMP Prisons Justice Group added:

“They’ve put Zack back in prison for speaking out — for protecting children, for exposing truth. That’s the reality. They’ve used recall as a silencing tactic, just like last time. But if they think this will stop us, they’re wrong. They’ve just added fuel to the fire. We’ll keep exposing what’s happening — and if they want to shut us down, they’ll have to come for us all.”

What Comes Next

Legal proceedings around the new charges are still underway, and further updates will depend on clearance from Zack’s legal team. Meanwhile, supporters continue to raise awareness of the issues Zack stood for, from deaths in custody to the treatment of campaigners who challenge authority.

The campaign calls for accountability, not just in Zack’s case, but in every case where silence has been weaponised to protect the system.

“You don’t recall someone like Zack unless they’ve hit a nerve. That tells us everything.”
