Set on Fire and Left to Survive: The Story of David Owen

A man in Perth is recovering from life-threatening burns after being deliberately set on fire inside a flat in the city centre earlier this month.
The victim, David Owen, sustained catastrophic injuries to his face, neck, chest, and back following the attack, which took place on the night of 3 July. He remains in hospital undergoing intensive treatment and a series of surgeries.
A Night Out Turned Violent
According to those close to the victim, David had been out drinking with a friend when the pair were invited back to a flat on North Methven Street. A disagreement reportedly broke out inside the property, during which David was covered in lighter fluid and set alight while seated.
Despite being heavily intoxicated and severely burned, David managed to escape the flat and seek help. Emergency services arrived to find him in critical condition.
Critical Care and Long-Term Recovery
David was rushed to hospital, where he required immediate life-saving surgery. After his body began to shut down, doctors performed an emergency escharotomy, to open his airway. He has since undergone multiple operations, including skin grafts, and remains under medical care.
Photographs viewed by The Indie Leaks confirm the extent of David’s injuries, which include full-thickness burns across major areas of his upper body.
He is now facing a long and painful recovery. David is a father, and his partner and child have been left traumatised by the attack.
No Statement Yet from Authorities
At the time of publication, no public statement has been issued by Police Scotland, and the incident has not yet been reported in local or national media.

A public GoFundMe has been launched by friends of the family to support David’s recovery and help with ongoing care needs. The fundraiser details the events leading up to the attack and the medical challenges David now faces.
