An investigation has been launched following a firearms incident in Tipton on Friday afternoon, 18 July, which led to a nearby school entering an emergency lockdown.

West Midlands Police confirmed they were called to reports of a gun being discharged on Sandgate Road, Tipton, at approximately 3:30pm. Although no injuries were reported, the proximity of the incident to a local school prompted immediate safeguarding measures.

“Students, parents and staff were kept on school grounds whilst police attended and made the area safe,” said Sunil Midda, Communications Officer for West Midlands Police.

Community concern quickly spread online, with unverified rumours circulating about gunshots and armed police. This statement is the first official confirmation of the incident and its link to school lockdown procedures.

The name of the school has not been officially disclosed, but local sources indicate it was Glebefields Primary School, which sits close to Sandgate Road.
