BREAKING: 22-Year-Old Inmate Sexually Assaulted at HMP Swansea

The HMP Prisons Justice Group can confirm that a 22-year-old inmate was sexually assaulted last night at HMP Swansea. The victim, who has mental health vulnerabilities, was reportedly attacked by his 60-year-old cellmate, who sang to him before carrying out the assault.
Following the attack, senior management at HMP Swansea were contacted for comment. They refused to provide any further details, stating only that “this is an ongoing case.”
The victim’s family has requested anonymity, which we fully respect. However, we must acknowledge the disturbing reality—this is yet another sexual assault in a Welsh prison, further proving that inmates, particularly the vulnerable, are not safe.
A spokesperson for HMP Prisons Justice Group said:
“This case exposes yet again the complete failure to safeguard vulnerable prisoners. How was a 22-year-old with mental health issues placed in a cell with a 60-year-old predator? HMP Swansea must be held accountable, and we demand immediate action to prevent more victims. Enough is enough.”
This case raises urgent concerns about safeguarding failures within HMP Swansea and across the wider UK prison system. Time and again, authorities turn a blind eye while vulnerable prisoners are placed at risk. Despite repeated warnings, sexual assaults continue to happen behind bars, and little is done to prevent them.
HMP Prisons Justice Group will not stay silent on this. We are actively seeking:
- Full accountability from HMP Swansea for this shocking failure.
- A transparent investigation into how this attack was allowed to happen.
- Urgent reforms to ensure vulnerable inmates are not housed with known predators.
This is not an isolated incident—it is part of a wider, systemic failure where prisoners are left unprotected from serious harm.
We consider this a predatory attack that should never have been allowed to happen. The victim and their family deserve justice, and we will continue pushing for accountability from HMP Swansea and all responsible parties.
